Designing Narratives
The collaboration between Anna Valentiny and Studio Polenta began in 2016 by redesigning the Luxembourgish architecture magazine ADATO, whose editor-in-chief Valentiny had become the same year. The redesign aimed to reflect the new content in its physical appearance, and the editorial design. Based on this first joint project, a regular collaboration on various projects was subsequently developed. Based on the case studies of ADATO (2016 to today), 40 Years of Valentiny hvp Architects (2021), Kufa's Urban Art Esch (2022) and, most recently, the newly published book “Hortus Alienum”, the collaboration between publisher and graphic designer will be discussed.
But above the questions of 'How', the discussion will focus on the 'Why' : Why do we generate print media in the age of digitalization? What is the added value of a printed, analogue, and haptic product compared to largely free digital alternatives? Or, more simply, Why do we do books?

Anna Valentiny
Chief editor of the architecture book series ADATO and architect partner at Valentiny hvp Architects
Anna Valentiny received her Master of Architecture with distinction from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 2018. The same year she started to work for Valentiny hvp Architects, where she became a partner in 2023. Anna Valentiny has been the Chief editor of the architecture book series ADATO since 2017 and founded Point Nemo Publishing, with a focus on Art and Architecture publications in 2020.
Anna‘s thesis project "Hortus Alienum - Scenographies of Nobody's Voyage", can be read as the culmination of her overlapping interests in writing, design, and the curation of thoughts through narration. These topics define the scope of her work today at the interface between editorial services, book publishing, art, and architecture. She develops projects from conception and design to the finished product, within her publishing house Point Nemo Publishing and for her clients in Austria and Luxembourg.
